Mangalore: Eid Celebrated with Religious Gaiety and Devotion in City

Mangalore, Oct 13: After observing a month-long fasting, Muslim brethren in city celebrated one of their biggest festivals, Eid with religious fervor and enthusiasm on Saturday October 13.
Members of Muslim community attended special prayers arranged at mosques and greeted Eid Mubarak to each other. Wearing new clothes, they visited the houses of their relatives and shared sweets and relished delicious food prepared to mark the day of forgiveness, harmony, moral victory and peace.
After waking up early in the morning, they offered everyday prayer, ate a small quantity of food to mark the end of month-long fast.
For Muslims Eid-ul-Fitr is a joyous occasion with important religious significance. Muslims celebrated not only the end of their fasting but also thanked God for giving them strength to observe fast.
Muslims in city thronged in large numbers to Idga Maidan situated on the Light House hill for the Eid prayer. Union Minister for Human Resource Development M A Sathmi offered special prayers along with Muslim brothers.
In Ullal, thousands of Muslim brothers and sisters took part in the mass prayer held at the Idga Maidan of Sal Sabiha mosque under the banner of South Karnataka Salafi Movement.
Mosque chief Abdul Malik called upon the Muslim community members to come out of superficial beliefs.
A procession led by the newly-elected president of Ullal Dargah S Kanachur Monu was taken out from Kotepura to the Dargah.
