Mangalore, Oct 15: Test run train from Bangalore brings new hope to thousands of   Mangaloreans who are waiting to see the dream of Bangalore- Mangalore direct train being realized soon.

Just 24-hours ago, members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce Mangalore had decided to go on hunger strike and had put forward several other severe protest ways to fulfill their long awaited wish.

V N Mathur, senior member of Railway Traffic Board, reached Mangalore Railway Station on Monday, October 15 at 12.20 am with his team and successfully completed the train run between Bangalore- Mangalore. Though the train run took about 14 hours to reach, in reality, the journey from Bangalore to Mangalore should take half of this time.

The Southern Railway higher officials and engineers were with Mathur on this occasion.

The special train which brought them here left Bangalore at 10 am on Sunday, October 14. The officials have inspected the railway tracks in various places.

Speaking exclusively to daijiworld.com , one of the senior officers of Southern Railway said that absolutely there is no problem in the railway tracks between Mangalore and Bangalore. However, he informed that extreme care is necessary in Ghat sections starting from Sakaleshpur to Subrahmanya.

It may take 6 to 7 hours for the journey between Mangalore and Bangalore. The railway engineers will give suggestions for some repair works, if needed, in any part of the Ghat section. He confidently said that the passenger railway between Bangalore and Mangalore would be introduced within a month.

its ironical that a re-opening of an existing route should take 15 years!!! i hope people of mangalore wake up and stop paying exorbitant amounts of money to the bus companies. even the present 12 hr schedule should be challenged. why should railways lose money ?
