Mangalore, Oct 15: Finally positive tiding is witnessed here with regard to the commencement of passenger railway services between Mangalore and Bangalore, with a test run done on October 15.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, V N Mathur, member of Railway Traffic Board clarified that the Railway department is very keen on starting passenger train service between Mangalore and Bangalore. Mathur reached Mangalore Railway Station here on Monday, October 15 at 12.10 am in an inspection car which started its journey from Bangalore, on Sunday October 14 at 10 am. He was accompanied by many senior railway officials and engineers.

All plans are afoot to commence the said services between Mangalore and Bangalore in November, at the earliest. Moreover, union railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav will inaugurate this train service, he informed.

With regard to the safety issue, predominant on his mind was the issue relating to working of signals. In this connection he held discussions with Mysore division authorities to sort out the problem, he informed.

Some landslides have been reported during the monsoon season at Ghat sections. Therefore to ensure the safety of rail passengers, signal equipments will be utilized there. This is the major issue where more attention is needed, he opined.

Since the road between Bangalore and Mangalore is in a pitiable state, there is pressure on railway department to re-introduce passenger trains on this route as early as possible. In the initial stage, there is a proposal to run a train overnight, which will leave Mangalore in the evening and reach Bangalore in the morning.  It will take about 10 hours to traverse between Mangalore and Bangalore, said Mathur.

At the same time he clarified that there is no proposal to dissolve the Konkan Railway Corporation. And in case it is indeed dissolved, it will be added to Mysore division, he assured.

Later he paid a visit to Kankanady railway station and the dock yard at Panambur

Already five days over November but nothing as yet been planned to inaugurate the new service between Mangalore and Bangalore via Mysore as announced in the budget. It looks like simply another promise.

Since the dates are not announced about the commencement of the train service, I am still sceptical about it. Hope the train journey will materialise soon between Bangalore and Mangalore. Roads are not motorable, the money collected through taxes which should have gone for the betterment of the roads, goes to the big bellies of some shameless persons. May God help them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAIT !! Take this news with caution and we need not be euphoric at it. Read the fine print about signals and land slides issue. The Railways which have shameleslly cancelled Matsya Gandha from Mangalore to help Transport Lobby can not be expected to be magnanimous overnight.Delay by each month means additional ' something' for them. Let us hope for the Best be prepared for the worst

Pleasant to here the news but date not yet fixed. Train services are to be extended up to Karwar or Goa which will be benefited all people of Coastal Karnataka and Goa including Tourist. The departure and arrival time should be realistic otherwise people may prefer the Bus Route. Anyhow, Good News to hear, if it is true, because Railway Budget had already introduced trains from past two years. Let us look for the reality date.

Once again it is Daijiworld to ring in the good news of commencement of the passenger train service alongwith latest updates and progress. Indeed one must appreciate the efforts of Mr. Mathur and his team in this direction. The credit for the speedy commencement of the service goes entirely to the Indian Railways and certainly not to local MP who has done nothing except some gimmicks . We hope the inaugural function is held in Mangalore soon and the most successful Railway Minister Sri Lalu Prasad will come to Mangalore to flag off the new train.
