Bengaluru, Apr 23: Contradicting reports in the media which said that 21 grace marks are being allotted to second PU students in mathematics, minister for primary and secondary education, Kimmane Ratnakar, clarified that the department has not yet taken a decision on allotment of grace marks.
He said that no questions in the mathematics paper were from outside the syllabus as alleged by a number of students and parents. A panel of three mathematics lecturers formed by the department to go into the issue had opined that there is no need to give any grace marks as the questions were from within the syllabus. "As a large number of students have said that they found the question paper tough, we have formed another panel of senior mathematics lecturers to look into the issue afresh," he stated.

The minister said that if the second committee finds any out-of-syllabus questions in the paper, grace marks would be given for the questions found to be out of syllabus. He added that a final decision would depend on the recommendations of this panel , which is expected to finalize its report shortly.
At the same time, director in the department of PU education, Ramegowda, referring to reports appearing in the media that 21 grace marks would be given to students in mathematics, clarified that as of now, no decision has been taken to award grace marks to second PU students for mathematics question paper as claimed in the reports.
