Panaji, Oct 31: Mormugao constituency, spread over entire South Goa, will go in for the Lok Sabha bypoll on Wednesday, wherein Congress and BJP are directly locked in a fight with each other.

Congress' Fransisco Sardinha, BJP's Wilfred Mesquita, Jawahar Dias (Independent) and Hamja Khan (Independent) are in fray for the bypoll.

Meanwhile, preparations for the polls are in full swing in the constituency.

Total 5,60,898 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the October 31 election which will be held in 590 polling booths. The voters comprise 2,81,560 males and 2,79,338 females.

Of the total booths, 65 are declared sensitive while none are hyper sensitive, additional magistrate Yeshwant Tavade said on Tuesday.

Catholic-dominated Salcette, which will determine the winning candidate, has largest number of sensitive polling booths compared to the rest of the talukas in the constituency.

Salcette has 31 sensitive polling booths while Ponda (nine), Mormugao (18), Sanguem (four) and Quepem (four).

Goa police have teamed up with the para military forces to keep law and order under tab. "Six platoons of India reserve battalion and one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be in action," officials stated.

The election will be conducted on electronic voting machines (EVMs) and 800 such machines are at the disposal of election officials.

Tavade said, 95 area officers and 21 sector officers will be deputed in different areas.
