Bengaluru, May 31: “The work on Yethinahole project has continued. First stage of its work will be complete at the end of 2018,” said former union minister and MP M Veerappa Moily.
Speaking in the rural zilla panchayat awareness and in charge committee meeting held at Bengaluru rural zilla panchayat auditorium on May 30, he said that obstacles for the project are done away with.
“KPTCL and other departments have consented to provide electricity for first stage pump house. There were some objections from forest department which now have been sorted out”, he said.
"Farmers have voluntarily come forward and provided land. 124 acres of land was required for first stage of work. 51 acres land is acquired after paying compensation to the farmers. The deputy commissioner has sent notices for acquisition of remaining land. Farmers have come forward, on their own, to provide land for the water project. The work is in progress and first stage of work will be over by the end of 2018”, he added.
“Prior to the meeting, project superintending engineer Venugopal, central CWC organization, Belgaum's Hydrology Company and other companies have confirmed availability of water. Yethinahole project will make 24 TMC water available in the monsoons. 8 barrages will be constructed in the project. The first 3 barrages will be constructed in Yethinahole, 4th and 5th barrage in Kadumanehole, 6th barrage in Kerihole, 7th barrage in Hongaladalla and 8th barrage in the basement of Yethinahole” he explained.
“In the blue print of the project, it was mentioned that distribution trough will be constructed at Devarayana Durga. As the area belonged to forest department that created confusion and controversy among all that the forest department has not given permission. The confusion is cleared,” Moily said.
“There was a complaint from some people that 24 TMC water will not be available. Most companies have given in writing that 24 TMC water will be available during rainy season. Water will not be lifted continuously from Yethinahole. It will be lifted only from June to October, ” he concluded.
Deputy Commissioner S Palayya, zilla panchayat CEO Shailaja, zilla panchayat president Prasad, vice president Ananthakumari were present.
