Mangaluru, Jun 3: Heavy rain was reported from Uppinangady and surrounding areas in Puttur taluk on the evening of Thursday June 2. Karkala in Udupi district also experienced good rain.
At around 2 am on Thursday June 2, lightning struck a house at Belman village near Karkala. Narayan Devadiga (55), resident of Kottinjala near Belman temple, who works as a coolie, and who was returning after relieving himself a little distance away from his home, died after lightning struck him. A report about this incident was filed in Karkala rural police station.
After lightning hit a house at Karuvelu Paraneeru in Nekkilady village, four persons from a single family fell sick. The lightning hit a palm tree near this house before recochettg to the house. The roof of the house was pulverised, and walls developed cracks. All the four who suffered electric shocks, Pavitra (18), Satish (24, Ganesh (22), and Sachin (22), children of Taniya Mugeru, were admitted into a private hospital for treatment. However, as they were in need of better treatment, they were shifted to a private hospital at Puttur later.
A house in Kariyangala village in Bantwal taluk was partially damaged after lightning struck on Wednesday night. Nagaveni, resident of Badakabail Mungaje, miraculously escaped unhurt in the incident. Electrical appliances in the house were damaged due to lightning.
