Mangaluru, Jun 3: Heavy rain was reported from Uppinangady and surrounding areas in Puttur taluk on the evening of Thursday June 2. Karkala in Udupi district also experienced good rain.

At around 2 am on Thursday June 2, lightning struck a house at Belman village near Karkala. Narayan Devadiga (55), resident of Kottinjala near Belman temple, who works as a coolie, and who was returning after relieving himself a little distance away from his home, died after lightning struck him. A report about this incident was filed in Karkala rural police station.

After lightning hit a house at Karuvelu Paraneeru in Nekkilady village, four persons from a single family fell sick. The lightning hit a palm tree near this house before recochettg to the house. The roof of the house was pulverised, and walls developed cracks. All the four who suffered electric shocks, Pavitra (18), Satish (24, Ganesh (22), and Sachin (22), children of Taniya Mugeru, were admitted into a private hospital for treatment. However, as they were in need of better treatment, they were shifted to a private hospital at Puttur later.

A house in Kariyangala village in Bantwal taluk was partially damaged after lightning struck on Wednesday night. Nagaveni, resident of Badakabail Mungaje, miraculously escaped unhurt in the incident. Electrical appliances in the house were damaged due to lightning.

    Thunderbolt and Lightning is very, very frightening. If you are in the house, better to lie down on the bed stuffing cotton balls in the ears and keep eyes closed and keep praying. No guarantee where and when lightning strikes. So scary and the lightening of recent times seems to be very intensive that what used to be in the olden times.

    Barsa banaga please put iron items out of house...to avoid lightening struck. See how forefathers were clever..without going to school.
    In udipi region already started rain in evening daily.
    Rim zim ke geet sawaan gaye..
    Badee lambhi dil ki baathe..

    These days lightning hits houses. There are few tips:-


    Lightning enters house from 3 wires namely line wire, neutral wire and grounding wire. 
    When lightning hits nearby try it develops huge ground potential in the surrounding areas. 

    So all the animals including human who were well grounded would develop potential difference between legs and experience shocks.
     
    1. Sit on wooden chair.

    2. Stay indoors.

    3. Disconnect house from electric supply from all three path including ground.

    What you say is all ok, but, lightning does not give advance notice. Best idea within the city is to install lightning arrestor. Especially for newly constructed building, government must make this compulsory.

    Actually no comments. Available solution need to appropriately evaluated through experts. But I still feel isolating home from grid and ground connection is a good bet.
