Margao, Nov  5: Francisco Sardinha, who has won the bypoll for the South Goa (Mormugao) Lok Sabha seat, had promised voters during his campaign to have bull-fights (Dhiryo) legalized. Now the people are pinning every hope on him and have started to lock horns.

According to sources, the day the result of the bypoll was declared, the Salcete people rejoiced by arranging bull-fights, and now bull-fights arrangers have every hope that their member of parliament will look into the matter and they be allowed to run the shows and be given immunity from police action.

Sources close to political parties told this correspondent that since the day of the result, Colva, Banaulim, Naveli, Mandopa, Majorda, Raia and other parts of Salcete had a field day with bull-fights.

Although the bull-fights took place, so far police have not arrested anyone in these connection, although there has been a court order in force prohibiting such fights.
