Mangaluru, Jul 25: Alva's Education Foundation Moodbidri which leaves its own impressions in sports has achieved another milestone. Alva's College student Dharun Ayya Swamy has been selected to participate in the Rio Olympics that will commence on August 5.

The institute’s sponsored student Indrajit (shot put), former students Poovamma and Ashwini Akkunji (4x400 meters relay) will also represent India with Dharun.
20 year old Dharun, hailing from Tamil Nadu, is a student of second year BHRD. He is the youngest among the sportsmen representing the country. Dharun had secured two gold medals in the recent Asian games. He is one among the six sportsmen representing India in the relay. He had received a gold medal in the All India Athletics 400 meters race and holds a group record in hurdles and a gold medal. Completing 400 meters race in 46.31 seconds has been his greatest achievement.
Dharun has been awarded Rs 1 lac by Alva's foundation for having been selected for the Rio Olympics. The institute also sponsors Rs 20000 every month for his training.
Dr M Mohan Alva, president of Alva's Education Foundation said that Alva’s sponsored Sathish Rai had participated in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996."We are glad that four students are participating from Alva’s in the Olympics this time," he said.
