Five Mumbai hospital doctors held in kidney sale racket


Mumbai, Aug 10 (IANS): In a major swoop, Mumbai police late on Tuesday arrested five top medicos of the reputed Dr L.H. Hiranandani Hospital here in connection with a kidney sale racket.

Contacted for comment, an official spokesperson for Hiranandani Group told IANS that they are conducting their own internal probe and declined comments till it was completed.

Powai police late tonight nabbed the five medicos who include the 12-year old hospital management's top brass.

The accused doctors are Dr Sujit Chattarjee (CEO), Dr Anurag Naik, Medical Director, Dr Mukesh Shete, Dr Mukesh Shah and Dr Prakash Shetty.

The accused will be produced for remand at Andheri Court on Wednesday.

The Mumbai police initiated a probe after a recent complaint alleging a kidney sale racket in the 240-bed hospital in Powai.

They have been charged under Section 12 and 21 of The Transplantation of Human Organ Act, 1994, said the police.

    In Mumbai,there is a racket of kidneysale ,but sale of children for adapt also is high in course.People who are willing buychildren in and foreign countrys come there make a "order",see the woman and go.These women stay there till Baby is there.when Baby is there,will come stay for somedays till Adaption papers are ready.when the Baby is having some Problem,they just dont come.Then mother has to see how she would lookafter it.Nobody takes the responsibility.How sad and Marketing works.There are women do it for two or three times.

    They have to recover the capitation fees their fathers have paid for their education and the poor are being made to pay for this.

    Unfortunately you have the wrong mix on the other side and this is what capitation breeds illegal abortions, illegal organ transplants.

    How terribly the medical industry has been gone down to the drainage system of ruthlessness-greed and outright robbery? Half of the medical surgeries in the U.S. are not needed, but to make money out of the defenseless sick patients.
    The main reasons of the bankruptcies in the U.S. is due to the unbearable medical bills after an hospitalization. Like the oil price crashing, the medical industry must be faced with some crashing to stop this modern legal rip off.
