Mangaluru, Sep 2: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) mayor Harinath launched 37 new vehicles for the purpose of solid waste management in the city, in front of the MCC building at Lalbhag on Friday, September 2.
Speaking on the occasion Harinath said "The motive of all the corporators from all the parties is to improve our city. The company Antony Waste Management is co-operating with the MCC now. Since few days we have been receiving complaints that the waste management vehicles are not coming few areas. I urge the officials of the company to rectify these errors and co operate with MCC. We presently stand in the third prize for waste management in the country, but we aim to become the number one.”
MLA of Mangaluru North constituency Moideen Bawa speaking on the occasion said MCC which is a model for all the municipal corporations in the state should improve its waste management standards. "There are few complaints. But we have make better progress even though we are one of the best municipal corporations in the country," he said.
The president of the MCC standing committee for health Kavitha Sanil informed the present that the MCC will be dedicating one of the days in the week for the dry waste management and the wet waste will be collected every day. "Today Antony Waste Management Company has introduced 37 new vehicles including 7 compactor trucks. The company has fulfilled our request by introducing new vehicles. We need the support from all including the citizens of the city", she said.
Former mayor Lancelot Pinto, Shashidhar Hegde, deputy mayor Sumithra Kariya, leader of opposition in MCC Roopa Bangera and others were present at the occasion.
