Mangalore, Dec 21: The district experienced some sporadic showers on Thursday, December 20.
With the monsoons just a few months away and the year's rains having prolonged over the past three months, the unexpected drizzle appeared to have confused the residents of the district, as to whether it was another extended monsoon or a forerunner of the next rainy season.
The upcountry cities of Mysore, Bangalore and Madikeri had heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday. The khariff rain in Tamil Nadu had taken a toll of 34 lives. A distant effect was felt in Mangalore and around with cloudy skies, gloomy atmosphere and relatively high level of humidity. The northern overcast was indicative of rainfall in the vicinity.
But the evening saw the pouring of reports from different parts of the twin districts. Udupi city, Manipal, Kundapur and Karkala in Udupi district and Beltangady, Subrahmanya, Panambur, Mulki, Nellyadi, Suratkal and parts of Mangalore are reported to have experienced a mild drizzle in the evening.
In the neighbouring Coorg (Kodagu) district, Madikeri had a fair share of heavy showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. The winter chill had been aggravated by the showers. The citizens got a relief with the sun shining on Thursday.
Curiously enough, the Met officials and district administration in both districts were unaware of any weather changes.
