Mangalore, Jan 9: The opposition to the ascension of Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji of Puttige Math to Paryaya Peetha in Udupi is gaining momentum day-by-day. The latest word of protest comes from the Madhava Brahmins of the USA, who, ironically were audience to the Swamiji when he made his foreign sojourn.

Ram Kumar and V G Rao of Phoenix, in a press release on behalf of the Madhava Brahmins of the USA, have stated that the swamiji was trying to make the best of both religious and materialistic worlds but was failing in both.

They have also alleged that the swamiji never followed the 'Ekadashi Vratha' and that he does not do any 'japa' before puja. He has also rejected the practice of having food on disposable leaves, and wears 'jari panche' taken out from a suitcase, the release stated.

They also alleged that the swamiji had committed a breach of priestly duties by visiting and staying in places forbidden in the vedic scriptures.

For the above reasons, Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji is unsuitable to take charge as head of the Krishna Math, the release stated while also adding that the Madhavas of the USA appreciated the work done by the swamiji according to the requirements of the modern world and requested him to continue doing the same instead of ascending the Paryaya Peetha.
