Mangalore: Water Supply to City will be Hit on Jan 12 and 13

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (MB)

Mangalore, Jan 12: As result of the pumping station at Tumbe having developed some technical problems, water supply to the city corporation limits could be affected on Saturday, January 12 and Sunday, January 13, said official sources here.

The repairs might take two days so that the supply could be restored to perfect order.

Citizens have already expressed concern that the problem of water shortage gets official attention only when summer sets in and all talk of another vented dam across Netravati gets into oblivion, once the monsoon sets in.

On account of lack of vision and planning on the part of city administration, there is every likelihood of a severe water shortage in the city and environs in the coming months.

Speaking to Daijiworld, a reader, hailing from Chennai but working for a corporate here for over four years, suggested that rainwater harvesting and water conservation be made compulsory as it is in Tamil Nadu. Before licence is granted to any new building, an undertaking to this effect should be made mandatory, he opined. He also expressed surprise that the district, known for literacy and knowledgeable people, are not showing any consistency in their concern for water conservation.
