Udupi, Jan 15: Within just five months of its launch, the Manipal Group's retail healthcare and wellness company Manipal Cure and Care was presented the Golden Peacock Innovative Product/Service award by the former Chief Justice of India, RC Lahoti at a function in New Delhi on Sunday January 13.
The company was one among 14 companies felicitated with the Golden Peacock award for corporate excellence conferred by the Institute of Directors. According to agencies, the companies were selected after an elaborate evaluation process undertaken by the award jury under the chairmanship of Former Chief justice of India and member of UN Human Rights Commission, P N Bhagwati.
This award is given to a product or service company which shows a quantum jump in the exploitation of current technology to achieve maximum customer satisfaction at minimum cost.
In 2005, the group's Manipal Hospital at Bangalore won the same award.
Chairman of the Manipal Education and Medical Group, Dr Ramdas M Pai considers the award as a testimony to the vision and goals of the group. On the company receiving the award he said, "Our vision is to revolutionize healthcare delivery in India by providing preventive monitoring with a focus on wellness. Through Manipal Cure and Care centres, we will educate people to be proactive towards health issues and strive to make every Indian a healthy citizen. This award corroborates our vision and goals."
Manipal Cure and Care is the youngest of the companies of the Manipal Group and is their attempt to foray into the business of retail healthcare products and services. Proclaimed to be India's first wellness and health retail chain, its first high-end store with immaculate interior designing was opened in Ahmedabad in Gujurat. The outlets have announced introduction of high end products such as the Living Proof Harley Street products and others for the first time in India.
It has tied up with the retail ventures of Aditya Birla and Jubilant group, to set up wellness boutiques within their departmental stores across the country in the next five years. This would supplement the company's own network of 50 stores to be set up in the next four years.
Group CEO of MEMG, Ramdas Pai's young and dynamic son, Dr Ranjan Pai feels that healthcare retailing is taking off in India and it has a huge growth potential in the wellness, preventive and beauty & cosmetic care segments. Happy and proud on one of his brainchild companies having won the award, Ranjan said "We plan to integrate our skills in healthcare to ride the wave of this boom. Winning this prestigious award is a key indicator that we have been able to marry our core strengths in healthcare with retail skills to create an innovation-driven brand"
The group's faith and belief in young energetic minds can be seen in the instillation of Somnath Das as the chief operating officer of the company. Somnath has created a niche for himself as an executive in a world where the graying of hair still counts.
