Mangalore, Jan 15: 'Kirushasti Mahotsava' was celebrated with religious fervour and devotion by hordes of devotees at the premises of the famous Sri Anantha Padmanabha Temple, Kudupu near Vamanjoor here on Monday January 14.

The 'Kirushasti Mahostva' is a smaller version of veneration, with prayers offered to the 'Naga devatas'  (snake gods) by the devout particularly the Hindus. The bigger festival 'Maha Shasti Mahotsava' had already taken place on December 15, 2007. This smaller festivity is observed by devotees by undertaking fasts to appease the snake gods.

At the temple premises the idols of the deities Sri Anantha Padmanabha and Subramanya, after being anointed were placed on a bedecked chariot. During the day time the 'Rathotsava' was held. The temple authorities had made all necessary arrangements for the devotees to make their offering.

Hundreds of people could be seen thronging the venue in all solemnity to have a glimpse at their beloved gods and break their fast and also make an offering of flowers, fruits and vermilion in order to invoke the blessings of the gods.
