Chicago, Nov 30: In the midst of The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago’s 75th Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light event, the Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association (MKCA), USA presented variety of cultural activities to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India. This is the Fourteenth programme in succession presented by MKCA, USA, at this world cultural jamboree.
In this mega event people from different ethnic backgrounds representing more than 65 countries including India participated. It was an unique experience for MKCA, USA, to represent India in this colorful event.
The Museum halls were decked, holiday singers and dancers fueled the festivities, and the sparkle of dozens of decorated trees greeted all at the 72nd annual Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light. The Museum’s 45-foot Grand Tree took center stage in the Rotunda with more than 30,000 lights and 1,000 ornaments, surrounding more than 50 smaller trees – beautifully decorated by volunteers from Chicago’s 65 ethnic communities to represent their country of origin, culture and holiday traditions.
To showcase India’s rich culture, Indian and Bollywood dance by children and adults were arranged. Spectators enjoyed variety of dances and Konkanni carols by MKCA Choir group under the leadership of Choir Master Concy Mesquita.
As the members and well-wishers clapped and sang, 'Dashing through the snow' and 'We wish you a Merry Christmas', the Santa Claus (Atina D’Souza) entertained the audience with her dance, 'Jingle Bells' and wishes of the season.
MKCA President Vissia D’Souza welcomed the gathering and thanked all participants and audience.
MKCA will be celebrating its annual gala programme of Nathal Fest or Christmas on Saturday, December 10 at Waterford Banquet Hall, Elmhurst under the banner of India Catholics of Chicago. Chicago Archdiocese’s newly elevated Cardinal Blasé Cupich will offer the Mass with 10 celebrants.
