Udpui, Jan 17: Even as the differences over Puttige Mutt pontiff Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha and performing Krishna pooja, among the Ashta Matadhipathies are continuing, the temple city of Udupi is all set to celebrate the biannual Udupi Paryaya, starting Thursday midnight, with all pomp.

A revolution is going to happen on Friday morning in the Sri Krishna Temple, which has more than 800 year-old tradition, as the chances of Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, who had been to foreign countries against the ban prescribed in the Shashtras, ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha are getting brighter.

As the Ashta Matadhipathies, led by senior pontiff of Pejawar Mutt Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, were ready to accept Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji ascending the Sarvajna Peetha, Sri Sugunendra Swamiji, as per tradition, will proceed to the holy Danda Teertha lake near Kaup on Thursday night and will take the holy dip.

He will return to Jodukatte in the early hours of Friday (2 am) from where he will be escorted to the Sri Krishna Temple in a palanquin, in a spectacular procession.

In case the crisis over Puttige Paryaya finds a solution by Thursday evening, other Matadhipathies of Ashta Mutts will join him in separate palanquins.

If no solution is arrived at, Shiroor Mutt pontiff Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji, who is supporting Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji in his attempts of both ascending the Sarvajna Peetha and performing Krishna Pooja, will join him as announced earlier. If not on the palanquin, he is likely to walk through the procession.

Adamaru Mutt senior pontiff Sri Vibudesha Theertha Swamiji, who had left the pooja rights to his junior for touring the foreign country, may also join the procession in support of Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji.

Live tableaus depicting the sequences from Ramayana, Mahabharatha and Bhagavathgita, traditional and folk dance troupes, music bands will bring colour to the procession. Dignitaries, celebrities, representatives of the people and scholars will also join the procession.

Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji will ascend the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha at the auspicious 5.55 am. The ritual also includes handing over the Akshaya Patre and keys of the sanctum sactorum by the outgoing Swamiji to the incoming Swamiji.

If the crisis gets settled, Krishnapura Mutt pontiff Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji will handover Akshaya Patre and other things.

If not, chances of he leaving the temple premises, placing it in front of the Sarvajna Peetha and Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, receiving the Akshaya Patre, from the hands of senior pontiff Sri Vibudesha Theertha Swamiji may happen.

In that case, instead of `handing over’, it may amount to `taking over’ the powers of the Sri Krishna Temple. In such an eventuality, Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji will go ahead with performing Srikrishna Pooja.

At any eventuality, performing Krishna pooja or leaving it, is in the hands of Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji. The Paryaya Darbar, as scheduled, will begin at 6.20 am at Rajangana.
