Muscat, Jan 19: The Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish at MCCP, Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Ruwi organized a very exciting and enjoyable 'Annual Volleyball and Throw ball' tournament for it's members here on Friday, 18th January 2008, at the city sports club grounds, Al Wadi Al Kabir in Ruwi.
The tournament was thrown open by Fr. Albert D’ Silva, Mangalorean priest of the Sts. Peter and Paul Church Ruwi and the spiritual director of MCCP after offering prayers. Stanley T. H. Fernandes, current president of MCCP, Valerian Dantis, main coordinator for sports and finance committee, Dilip Correa, main coordinator for cultural, spiritual and community services committee, Sunitha Nazareth, Nora Vaz , sports committee members, Suraj Rebello, core committee members and MCCP members were present.
On the occasion Dale Dantis offered floral bouquet to Fr. Albert D’ Silva. The thrilling volleyball matches resulted in the winners trophy being won by Dilip Correa and his team and Valerian Dantis and team being the runner-up. Terril Saldanha was declared as the most valuable player of the tournament. The throwball tournament too was equally interesting. Sunitha Nazareth’s team presented a powerful play and truly deserved to win the first place, while Nora Vaz and team were placed in the runner-up position.
Onas Trading LLC was the sponsor for the trophies of the tournament. Other sponsors were Denis Mascarenhas, Mutrah cold stores, National Tea company, Salsabeel, Denis D Souza, Zaharat Al Rawdha and Monica Dantis. Omantel is the main sponsor for all MCCP Annual events of 2007 –2008. Ideal tailors, Muscat pharmacy and Marmul tours and travels are the major sponsors.
Suraj Rebello, well-known sports personality of the community coordinated the entire tournament with great dedication, exhibiting his great organizing ability. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Monica Dantis. president Stanley Fernandes expressed his sincere gratitude to all the sports committee members for their hard work. Donald Pinto, Henry Martis, Stanley Fernandes,, Suraj Rebello and Clarence Pinto, the core committee members, did the honors of presenting the trophies to the winners.
Nora Vaz proposed vote of thanks. Valerian Dantis and his team had worked tirelessly to present this gala annual tournament and truly deserve a great round of applause for their selfless work.
