Mangalore, Jan 26: The graduation day ceremony of Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust institutions was held here on Friday January 25 at the Loyola Hall. MV Shetty colleges of nursing, physiotherapy, speech & hearing, medical lab technology, social work, Sarsa College of arts & science and Leelavathy Shetty College of education participated in the grand graduation day celebration.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr M Abdul Rahiman, former vice-chancellor of Kannur and Calicut University. The event began with the graduation procession followed by a welcome address. The annual report of the institution was presented later after which there was a presentation of scrolls and mementos to graduates.
Speaking on the occasion chief guest Dr Rahiman in his keynote speech spoke cogently about a programme on self-education namely study and read for general knowledge, computer literacy and knowledge and communication skills in English to be globally competitive.
Rahiman also spoke at length on the formation of an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to do regular assessment based on SWOT - strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. He informed graduates that "all knowledge was being made obsolete every five years. So it is very crucial to upgrade it, as 5000 new words of new knowledge is entering the world everyday," he opined.
Giving an example of the latest budget car Nano, he said that this would enable science for even more new and upcoming developments in technology, just like computers and mobiles had done earlier. In conclusion the chief guest wished the graduates and institutions a creditable future.
Giving his presidential address the founder & secretary of the trust, Dr Ramgopal Shetty emphasized on the depth of knowledge, ability to work independently with good clinical experience and a good work culture. He declared positively that with India developing and slowly emerging as a strong economy, it would soon be the "professional destination of the future."
Also as part of the function the annual distribution of proficiency and sports prizes and trophies was held with deserving candidates receiving the same. Moreover, there was the felicitation ceremony of graduates conducted by Ashok Kothari, a parent of one of the students.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the outgoing student Anuradha Adikari. The grand and colourful annual day of MVSM trust finally culminated with cultural programmes presented by the students and faculty.
