Mangalore, Feb 22: Muslims need to accept education as a means to get rid of poverty to which a considerable percentage of the Muslim population is subjected, Prof K S Nissar Ahmed, well-known poet in Kannada said.
He was delivering the inaugural address at the Muslim writers and journalists state-level conference hosted by Muslim Lekhakara Sangha at Town Hall here on Friday February 22.
The contribution by Islam to science and logic is indeed significant, but unfortunately people are not aware of it. A true follower of Islam should unconditionally love other religions as much as he loves Islam, he added.
Every follower of the faith should realize the three core values of Islam - equality, humanity and rationalism. Moreover, it is one of the few religions that has accorded equal status to men and women, Ahmed opined.
India is in a terrible predicament and the Muslim community is under the grip of superficial beliefs. Every follower of the faith must be taught to develop discretion. Today cricket, cinema and politics have become the top priority among people, but such 'addicted populace' must think of real values in life that has been taught by Islam, he advised.
'Muslim Lekhakara Mattu Patrakartara Mahiti Kaipidi,' published by Muslim Lekhakara Sangha, 'Aasare' by Shanaz M, 'Jagathikarana Mattu Samskruthi' by A K Kukkila and 'Bevu Bella' by Ahmed Anwar were released by Dr M Gajendragad on the occasion.
A Sayyad Ismail, president of Muslim Lekhakara Sangha welcomed the gathering and M B Abdul Rehman, president of the reception committee of the conference delivered the introductory address.
