Bantwal, Feb 24: Konkani poetry session held by Kavita Trust, on Saturday February 23 at Malekody hills, located along the boundaries of Allipade and Farla parishes, here drew many poets and large number of poetry enthusiasts who seems to have listened to the recitation of poems in awe.

William Pais, trustee of Kavita Trust, welcomed the gathering of poets and poetry enthusiasts at the picturesque Malekody hills, far away from the hustle and bustles of city life, where one could view the winding Netravati river and lush green vegetation, all around.

Pais, in his welcome address, marveled at the location of venue which was ideally suited for the poets’ session; thereby cheered the people living along the Malekody hills.

Melvyn Rodrigues, president of Kavita Trust, while briefing the background of Trust, said that Kavita Trust will be organizing ten poets’ sessions this year while this was the second session in progress at Malekody hills. The first was being held at St Aloysius College Auditorium in January.  Moreover, if the poets’ session held here could inspire at least a few individuals to write poetry and read, then the effort in organizing the session would be worthwhile.

Vitori Karkol, trustee compered the programme and introduced all the poets at the session.  Gerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto entertained the gathering with their choicest of jokes and mimicry, during the intervals.  Kishu Barkoor, Trust secretary, proposed vote of thanks.

Michael D’Souza, a resident of Farla, said that these kinds of poets’ sessions should be held frequently which would bring the fragrance of Konkani poetry to the people living across Mangalore.  The state government would also recognize the effort of Kavita Trust in promoting Konkani poetry, in this regard.

Angel Pais, another local citizen, said that in general, no poet who works without much fanfare has been acknowledged by the people at large.  Moreover, he was happy to listen to the poetry recitation in his native place and thanked the organizers for their effort in popularizing the Konkani poetry among the locals.
