Muscat, Mar 22: Mangalorean Catholic Center of the parish in association with Toastmasters International organized a public speaking event called ‘speak to impact’ on the March 17 at Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi.
The event was a demonstration session conducted by the organization for the Mangalurean community.
The programme commenced at 5 pm with a prayer by Fr Marian Miranda, spiritual director of MCCP. Dilip Correa the president of MCCP for the current year and a Toastmaster himself welcomed the gathering. The entire event was conducted by DTM Cyprian Misquith, a very active member of MCCP.
The event covered various project speeches and Table Top speeches. Eminent speakers from the Toastmasters fraternity presented interesting topics namely 'Emotion in Motion', 'Don’t lose your cool when you are on the move'. The Toastmaster of the day along with the other speakers demonstrated the skills of public speaking to the audience. The evaluators emphasized on the tactics of improving one’s speech by the use of correct grammar, presentation skills, avoiding pauses while speaking and also completing the talk within a given time frame.
Lavina D’Sa, vice president, cultural, spiritual and community services, invited to the stage the MCCP executive committee for the year 2016-17 comprising of Dilip Correa- president, Jessie Pereira- vice president– sports and finance, Melita Alva- general secretary, Ashok Pinto- honorary treasurer, Trecilla Menezes- internal auditor, Lynel Lobo- sports secretary and Sachin Lobo- community services secretary. Team 25 presented a token of appreciation to all the speakers and organizers of Toastmasters International. Joachim D’Souza who was the Daijiworld official photographer was also presented with a memento. The audience was served with light refreshments.
It was indeed a very enriching experience for the audience and a chance to sharpen their public speaking skills. This event has paved the way for many to have an experience of the functioning of the Toastmasters International body here in Muscat.
