Udupi: Untimely Showers - Peacocks, Monkeys have 'Field' Day

Udupi, Mar 18: The untimely showers in the coastal district of undivided Dakshina Kannada, since the past 3 – 4 days resulted in floods in low-lying farm lands causing wide-spread damage to agricultural crops.

Youth playing volleyball during the season in the harvested paddy fields in the past were dissuaded by stagnant water caused by untimely showers.  Peasants are distressed due to untimely showers even as the meteorological department has predicted moderate rains in next two - three days.

Hoards of monkeys and peacocks from the wild have increasingly landed in the fields, driven by the moderate showers. On the one hand, the people residing in coastal district are facing nature's extremities while the industrial units are also adding their share of miseries in the regard.  The peasants are alarmed over the wild animals damaging their crops. The peacocks which were restricted to the wild till now seem to be flocking to inhabited lands in large numbers.
