M'lore: 'Good Friday' Observed in all Solemnity at Milagres Church
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (NR) Pic's by: Dayanand Kukkaje Mangalore, Mar 21: Today being Good Friday, Milagres Church here witnessed huge throngs of devotees solemnly carrying the images of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary in all fourteen stations, within the church compound. 'Way of the Cross' is also called 'Stations of the Cross' (Via Crucis and Via Dolorosa). These names are used to signify either a series of pictures or tableaux representing certain scenes in the 'Passion of Christ', each corresponding to a particular incident, or the special form of devotion connected with such representations.
Just as 'Way of the Cross' is observed in different parts of the world, here too it was observed in all solemnity with holy prayers chanted in Konkani at the Milagres Church, in the city which began at 7 am and concluded at 8 am. Prayers were conducted by the Rev. Fr. Edwin Correa of Milagres Church. He was accompanied by Rev. Fr Walter D'Mello the parish priest of Milagres Church, Fr. Victor D'Souza, Fr. J J Saldanha and Fr Lawrence D'Souza.
Similar 'Way of the Cross' will be held at 9.30 am in English language and another one again in Konkani at 12 noon at the same venue. The final concluding ceremony on this sombre occasion will be held today at 5.45 in the evening in which again huge mass of devotees are expected to participate.
Mr.Dayanand Kukkaje, and one and all at Daijiworld, From the bottom of my heart Thank you very very much for the beautiful photographs of the Good Friday observed so solemnly at my good old parish church of Milagres at Mangalooru.
It just made me feel very much a part of the congregation, of the procession and also the choir...just as I used to personally feel year after year for the first twenty years of my life!!! I am also happy to see the Lourde's Grotto safe as it was and it brought back memories of my late father fighting to save it from the pick axes of the "Road Broadening Lobby" of the 1960s. May you and all at Daijiworld have a Happy Easter and may the Risen Lord Bless and give one and all of you more and more strength now and always.
