Karkala: Colourful Procession Marks Kannada Literary Meet

Karkala, Mar 21: The taluk-level Kannada Sahitya Parishat literary meet was inaugurated at Muniyal, near Ajekar here on Friday March 21. The event marked the decennial celebrations of the taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat.

The event began with a procession from Sri Venkatarama Temple to Government Junior College, the venue of the meet. People carrying Kannada flags and riding bicycles comprised the procession. Ladies from various organizations donning their respective uniforms also took part along with various dignitaries.




Dr Kabbinale Vasant Bharadwaj, renowned litterateur presided over the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he said that one should rise above one's petty attitude towards literature so as to develop true love for it.

He decried the idea of separating Tulu Nadu from Karnataka and said that 'Taulaweshwari' and 'Kannadeshwari' are like sisters and they cannot be separated from each other. Referring to former president of state Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Harikrishna Punaroor's demand for the same, he said that being the president, Punaroor should not have pressed for such a demand as Tulu Nadu is a part of Karnataka and cannot be considered as a separate entity.


Dr Malali Vasant Kumar, veteran litterateur inaugurated the literary meet.

Karkala Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Ambatanaya Mudrady hoisted the flag. Committee president Muniyal Dinesh Pai, Parishat Udupi president Uppunda Chandrashekar Holla, M K Vijayakumar were the guests of the occasion.

The distinguished personalities K Susheela, M N Rajendra Kumar, Dr M S Rao Mudrady, M Ramamohan Rao, Radhakrishna Todikana, K M Imtiyaj Ahmed, Sadanand Naravi, Nakre George Castelino, Dr Madhav Moodkonaje, Mamata Poojary Hermunde were felicitated for their yeomen service in their respective fields.

Journalist Manohar Prasad and Shyamala Gopinat, pricipal of S V T College delivered a lecture on 'Literary Studies on Media.’

New faces Ashwini Sanil and Anuradha Tellar of S V T College are going to take part in the poets’ meet, chaired by budding poet Jyoti Guruprasad Karkala, later in the day. 

Among those present were committee secretaries Sukumar Poojary, Anand Poojary, treasurers Sridhar Pai and Narasimha Bhat. The programme was compered by Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde.
