Udupi: Stag Found Dead near Moodbelle - Cremated on Spot

Udupi, Mar 27: A four-year-old stag was spotted on Wednesday March 26 afternoon, at Igargigudde (hillock by the Church) near Hampanakatte in the neighbourhood of Moodubelle which comes under the jurisdiction of Udupi Forest Range, here.
A few women who were collecting firewood found the deer struggling for life. They immediately alerted the forest department. The forest guards accompanied by forest officer Satish N, veterinary officer Arun Kumar Hegde, A M Yogeshwar, Nagesh Billava and Devaraj found the deer dead when they arrived.
The forest officers said that the deer had been chased by a leopard as it bore marks of paws. The locals informed that they sighted a herd of deer and a leopard in the neighbouring dense Pilarkad region.
As per the Wildlife Protection Act, the officials with the help of locals cremated the deer on the spot itself.
