Bangalore, Mar 27: Bowing to stiff opposition from the teaching community, the State Government has withdrawn its order making BEd degree a pre-requisite to become lecturers in PU colleges.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Governor Rameshwar Thakur which was attended by MLCs and representatives of teachers’ associations here on Wednesday.
The government had recently issued an order making BEd mandatory to become lecturers in PU colleges, making teachers and prospective teachers see red.
MLC Puttanna told reporters after the meeting that the government had withdrawn its order after they had apprised it of the difficulties the teachers would face if the order was implemented.
With this decision, the direct recruitment to PU colleges, which was stopped mid-way due to protests from the aspirants against the government order, will resume soon.
“The meeting decided to complete the recruitments before the start of the academic year and the Commissioner of PU Education has been instructed in this regard,” Puttanna said.
The meeting also took serious note of the difficulties faced by the teachers of aided schools in getting their salaries on time and decided to evolve a mechanism under which teachers get salaries on the first day of the month on-line.
“The Governor had ordered the officials to ensure that such a system was in place within three months,” Puttanna said.
The Governor also assured the meeting that necessary steps would be taken to fill-up existing vacancies in primary and high schools, he added.
