Bhatkal, Mar 28: A prominent Muslim leader of Bhatkal, Mohtesham Abdul Ghani breathed his last here at Murdeshwar Hospital at 5 am on Thursday March 27. Ghani was admitted to hospital two days ago after he complained of pain in the arm. The sudden news of his demise has plunged the entire town into grief.

All the educational institutions had declared holiday on account of his death. All the business settlements remained shut on the request of Majlis-e-Islah-O-Tanzeem and the Bhatkal Taluka Merchant Association.

MA Gani was born on 1st of May 1936. He was the president of Anjumn Hami-e-Muslimeen Bhatkal and the member of many main organizations. He was also the executive member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Nadwat ul Ulma Lucknow along with being the syndicate member of Aligarh Muslim University. He had been the convener of 'Bain-ul-Jamati Conference' which was held at Calicut in the year 2002.
 
It may be recalled that the young daughter of Gani had passed away few years back following a long term illness. He is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters.

He was one of the efficient personalities of the town and one among those peoples who would solve all the critical problems with a cool mind. The demise of the dynamic leader has created a vaccum difficult to be filled in by others.
