Kuwait: Tony D’Cruz Elected New President of BELWAK

Kuwait, Apr 2: The 5 Annual General Body Meeting of Belman Welfare Association Kuwait, was held at the Echo Restaurant on Friday March 28, 2008. Senior member Stany D’Souza opened the AGM in the absence of president Clifford D’Souza, who abstained on health grounds.
Outgoing Secretary Priya D’Souza set out the agenda. The annual report featuring events of the past year was read out. Likewise, auditor of BELWAK briefed the members on the financial status. Apart from other issues, discussion was held on the forthcoming celebration of the feast of St Joseph, Patron Saint of Belman Parish (proposed feast date May 2).
In the second phase of the AGM, existing committee was dissolved and a new committee was formed. Old guard and founder member Tony D’Cruz was elected as president for a second time to lead its flock. Senior member Henry D'Mello was elected as vice-president and the dynamism of Rita Rodrigues was befitting to vote her in as secretary.
President-elect Tony D’Cruz pledged to continue the good work of Clifford and his team in the interest of the association at large. He also affirmed his unwavering stand to uphold BELWAK’S motto of providing financial aid towards education of the poor and provision of medical aid for the aged. Further, impetus will be laid in honouring outstanding personalities who have devoted time and energy for noble causes towards the society.

Outgoing vice-president Jessie thanked members on behalf of outgoing president Clifford and its outgoing committee for their overwhelming support. She was optimistic of the new committee members, who will excel in their task. Vice-president Henry D’Mello proposed the vote of thanks. At the close of business for the day, members were led to a sumptuous buffet.
