Mumbai, Jun 4 (TOI): Nearly 1,000 people plan to gather at Juhu beach on Sunday evening and hold a memorial service for animals that die in human hands to raise awareness for animal rights.
Mumbai is one of the four Indian cities (others being Dharamshala, Hyderabad, and Pune) out of more than 20 cities around the globe holding events to observe the National Animal Rights Day (NARD). This is the first time India is observing NARD.
A large number of animal lovers, vegans and activists are participating in this movement, which aims to create awareness by paying tribute to animals that die in human hands. "Efforts will be to show the cruelty in the 'animal farming and food industries' and showing people a way to healthy & easy substitutes,'' said Anand Siva, an activist.
