Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru
Mangaluru, Jun 17: On May 13, a family from Kayyar was struck by a devastating tragedy when it lost seven of its members in a ghastly accident in Tamil Nadu. The survivors, which included two women and a child, were left distraught, having an addition burden of meeting financial needs while grieving for their dear departed, while themselves recuperating from injuries. Now, the kind-hearted readers of Daijiworld spread across the world have given them a ray of hope, with a contribution of over Rs 17 lac in response to an appeal on daijiworld.
On the initiative of Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh president Anil Lobo, daijiworld on June 5 had published an appeal to help Jhosma, Shanvi and Preema, the survivors of the horrific accident that took place at Karur in Tamil Nadu last month that claimed the lives of seven of the family who were returning from a visit to Velankanni pilgrim centre.
While seven - Allwyn Monteiro, his brothers Herald Monteiro and Sathurine Monteiro, Herald's wife Precilla, Allwyn's sister-in-law Reema and their son Rohit, and Sathurine's daughter Sharon - died on the spot, there were four suvivors - Jhosma, Preema, Shanvi and Roshan. Among them, Jhosma, Preema and Shanvi were admitted to Father Muller Hospital in the city. Having lost the breadwinners of the family, the survivors were in dire straits, needing financial support to meet their medical costs, outstanding loans and day-to-day expenses.
Showing quick response as always, daijiworld readers rose to the occasion and many transferred money within hours after the appeal went online. Readers, showing their generosity and kindness have even called up the survivors' family members and tried to instill confidence in them. Some of them even visited the hospital and met the injured, besides lending financial support. A few readers who could not make NEFT payment, called up the family members and offered their help through cheques and cash.
The support of daijiworld readers has given Jhosma, Preema, and Shanv a new ray of hope. We convey our heartfelt gratitude to our readers around the world who have contributed more than Rs 17.17 lacs in just 11 days (as on Saturday June 16). Contributions from Rs 500 to Rs 40,000 clearly shows how our readers are always ready to help the needy.
While Preema has already been discharged from the hospital, Jhosma and Shanvi are slowly recovering.
We at Daijiworld, once again extend our gratitude to our readers who have supported a good cause, financially and through prayers, besides lending moral support to the bereaved family. We thank our generous readers who have time and again supported the needy and given a new lease of life to so many. Your steady support helps Daijiworld to keep up the spirit of humanity high. A special thanks to Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh president Anil Lobo too for his initiative and support to the cause.
