Panaji, Jun 28: The country's premier literary body, the Sahitya Akademi, will confer upon its annual literary award for children's literature, Bal Sahitya Puraskar, on Goa's renowned Konkani literary personality, Vincy Quadros. The Sahitya Akademi announced the award after its executive board meeting held in Guwahati on Thursday.
Quadros will be awarded the Sahitya Akademi's Bal Sahitya Puraskar for Konkani language, for his book for children 'Jaduche Petul' in Konkani.
"I was very excited to hear that I bagged the Sahitya Akademi award. I feel elated as it is a national recognition for my work," Quadros said.
His book 'Jaduche Petul' was released in 2011. Quadros who writes both in Devnagri and Romi scripts, has written eight short story books, seven books on children's literature, one novel and another book on spiritual matters.
A prominent figure in the Konkani movement, Quadros has been the office bearer of several Konkani organisations and has received awards from Goa Konkani Akademi, Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendr, Dalgado Konkani Akademi and other Konkani institutions.

Vincy Quadros started writing at a early age of 12 years. His first writing was a tiatr entitled ‘Chintunk Naslem’. He wrote poetries, stories, skits, plays and essays for the All India Radio, and the weeklies and monthlies in Konkani.
His first book was ‘Fuldani’ in Devnagari published in 1989. He has written around 15 tiatr in all. He has also written around 18 literary books besides 6 transliterations, which are Fuldani (1990) in Devnagri, Kurponno (2007) in Devnagri, Sukh ani Dukh (2007) in Romi, Ghons (2008) in Romi, Turo (2010) in Romi, Mollo 2011 in Romi, Avaz-Dhon (2011) in Romi, Konnsam (2011) in Devnagri, Otmik Vicheardhara (spiritual thoughts) (2010), Suryoday (2012) (Novel) in Romi, and Romi Lipi Borovpiank ani Vachpiank Sangati (2010) Orthography in Romi.
Vincy's Children’s Literature include Short stories in PORSUM (2010), the novel Jaduchem Pettul (2011) in Devnagri script, novel Jaduchem Pettul (2012) in Romi script, novel Khell zalo Vell (2014) both in Romi and Devnagri script, short stories Morpakham (2016), short stories Mannkam Motiam (2016).
The award will be in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque of Rs 50,000. The Bal Sahitya Puraskar will be presented to the awardees at a special function that will be held on November 14, said according to the Sahitya Akademi secretary K Sreenivasarao.
