Mangalore, Apr 27: The parishioners of Milagres Church felicitated their parish priest Fr Walter D'Mello, who recently celebrated the silver jubilee of his priesthood, on Sunday, April 27 evening.
Speaking on this occasion, Rt Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, said that a priest is not an employee . He is selected by the God to serve mankind. He should always be present before God and serve mankind. Fr Walter D'Mello has served the people with great devotion, he opined.
The Bishop further went on to say that Fr Walter D'Mello had served the diocese in various capacities. He always fulfilled his duties with great enthusiasm. the Bishop added.
Replying to the accolades, Fr Walter D'Mello said that he experienced both bitter and sweet occasions in the last 25 years as a priest. But he accepted every bitter experience as medicine sent by the God. He expressed his desire to serve his people for many more years to come.
Earlier, there was a concelebration of the Holy Eucharist. A cultural programme followed.
Fr Lawrence D'Souza, convener of the programme, welcomed the gathering. Alwyn Rosario, vice-president of the church, proposed vote of thanks. Roshan Madtha compered the programme.
