Bangalore, May 12: Two occupants in a lift died and seven others were injured on Saturday after the lift crashed to the lower basement at the construction site of a residential apartment on Bannerghatta Road.
The deceased are Devamma (40) and Devendra (24). The lift, carrying nine labourers, snapped from the sixth floor to the basement of the apartment killing Devamma on the spot. Devendra, who suffered severe injuries, was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. The other injured are in St John's Hospital.
ACP (Mico Layout sub-division) B R Prasad said, "The lift was carrying nine labourers to the sixth floor of the apartment. Due to technical problems, the lift broke down bringing the passengers to the basement. We have taken up a case against the project engineer and are investigating."
According to Sanjay Gandhi Trauma and Ortho Centre director Dr V Govindaraju, seven people were admitted to the hospital at 12.30 pm on Saturday. One person, who suffered grievous injuries, died. Another victims is battling for life in the intensive care unit.
"Others have sustained spinal injuries, pelvic fractures and limb fractures," the doctor added.
