Mangaluru, Sep 11: "Yenapoya University Hospital completed one year of robotic surgical system and more than a hundred complex surgeries in a one year," informed Dr Abbar Jalalludin, head of Oncology department.

Addressing media here on Monday September 11, Dr Abbar Jalalludin said, "The surgical robotic system was first installed in the year 2016. Since then we completed over 100 surgeries. These surgeries have lesser bleeding. Laparoscopic surgery, the key hole surgery, is performed which precision. But robotic surgery uses computers, and has ten times greater precision, unique optic system and instruments. It is an easier alternative for doctors who conduct delicate surgeries. The system, which is superior to the existing laparoscopy system, enhances the capabilities of surgeons to perform complex major surgeries, by also offering greater range of motion, dexterity, visualization and access."

He also said,"Adopting a robotic system is expensive, but it can be done at an affordable cost. This is one of the good techniques for cancer patients. Apart from Mangaluru, this system is used only in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Cochin. The method has several advantages including small incision, lesser pain, faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, early return to normal activity and better cancer clearance. Robotic system here is cost effective when compared to other centres."

"It is a modern surgical treatment, technologically superior and procedurally safe, and is executed by highly trained and experienced surgeons," he added.

Dr Althaf, consultant, Urology department, Dr Nishchith D'Souza, Dr Mujeeb Rehman and others were present.
