Udupi: Labourers Trapped inside Under-construction Well Rescued Miraculously

Udupi, May 31: Four labourers who were trapped inside the clay after an under-construction well caved in near Hejamady were rescued by fire service personnel with the help of locals on Saturday May 31.
Srijani (22), daughter of Shankar, Girija (32), Hanumantha (48) of Bagalkot and Krisna Achari were trapped inside after lose clay of an under-construction well slithered. Immediately a message was sent to fire service personnel who pressed in a crane for rescue operations and saved the trapped labourers.
After they were rescued, they were rushed to the hospital. Hanumantha and Krishna who have been admitted to Hitech Medicare Hospital here are critically wounded but out of danger, said hospital sources.
Heavy rains that lashed the region on Friday May 30 night might have resulted in the tragedy, opined locals. They also blamed contractor T K Khader for undertaking work despite knowing that digging further may result in tragedy. Accordingly, a case has been registered against the contractor in this regard.
Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, former minister Vasant Salian and zilla panchayat member Shashikanth visited the accident spot.
