Mangalore, Jun 2: It was a rare occasion of music, sentimental reminiscences and nostalgia at Kalaangann in Shaktinagar on Sunday June 1 evening. Mandd Sobhann's monthly theatre ('Moinealli Manchi') featured `Mandd Sobhann,' the music which made waves in Konkani world some twenty years before.

It was the 78th show at the Kalangann monthly theatre series and 172nd Mandd Sobhann show.

All the singers mesmerised the audience with their voices blending so well, besides the skill of modulation.

During the vocal performance, Mandd Sobhann's first family couple Eric and Joyce Ozario, were joined by Zina Pereira, Prakash DSouza, Robin Sequeira, Carol Monteiro, Disha Pasanna and children Arthur Lobo, Chrismita D'Costa, Diona Pais.

The first part included songs 'Suddsudde Renvecher' by Prakash, 'Battabachea Pottant' by Eric, Prakash & Robin, 'Kantto' by Eric, 'Sat Sat Chovda Sannam' & `Kiraga Kiraga' by Eric, Joyce, Zeena & Praksha which stole music lovers' hearts.  The lyrics for all these numbers were by the late Cha Fra D'Costa.

In the second part songs by Melvyn Rodrigues, Sridhar Kamath, Fred Kumar, Deena Pereira, Uday Bhembre and Rajay Pawar were presented. Carol Monteiro who made her debut performance for Mandd Sobhann was appreciated by all for her well controlled sweet voice.

The final part witnessed all new numbers by Melvyn Rodrigues, Ronie Crasta and Yashwant D S.

Between the songs, Francis D'Costa spoke on behalf of sponsors and assured of organizing one show of Mandd Sobhann musical performance every year. Lyricists whose songs have been chosen by Mandd Sobhann were rewarded by cash prizes during the occasion.

Melvyn Rodrigues who had compered for the first Mandd Sobhann performance along with the late Cha Fra D' Costa executed his assignment well with his rich language including some hilarious jokes.

Roshan D'Souza on lead guitar, Rison on flute, Richard Monteiro on keyboard, Sunil Kumar on violin, Damodar Kumble on tabla, Norbert Gonsalves on extra effects, Macquin Fernandes & Dylan Caldeira on box guitars gave able accompaniment to ensure the success of the musical evening.  Rison, a flutist from the film world took the audience to a soothing world with his magic of accoustics.

Eric Ozario was the composer of all the songs.

Cordel Friends Loy, Praveen, Francis, Walty and Rajesh sponsored the event.

We have our great admiration and attachment for Kala Angann in the way it is so tastefully designed and in the manner so many wonderful programs of performing arts are displayed. Duirng our last gathering at Kala Angann we also took the privilege of singing the National Anthem of India and also "God Bless America". What a fantastic privilege ! We often question within ourselves, during our quiet hours of discussions in America, as to what and how should be design our retirement life in Mangalore during our old age, and we come up with a simple solution:-

    A) At least once a fortnight we shall have the privilege of inviting either Eric Ozario and Joyce, or Wilfy Rebimuos and Meena, or Melwyn Peres and Nina along with their musical group to come to our humble home and sing for us all our favourite songs. It may even be possible that we shall have all of them at one time under one simple and united roof. We shall have the simple bread to relish, we shall have the Konkani music to listen, and most importantly we shall have the opportunity to recognize and thank all these talented friends for all that they have contributed to the world of entertainment. Thank you Eric and Joyce for all that you have given so graciously to our Konkani society, and we hope to see you at Kala Angann during September where we would like to celebrate 150 years of Annniversary of Lady of Lourdes who has done so much for our family and our home town.

Cudos to Eric Ozario. He is giving a much needed platform for budding singers/musicians in M'lore to tap & develop their talents. What more, I am excited to see my cousin, Miss Diona Pais, sitting next to Eric Ozario and lend her voice to a song. Congratulations Diona. Keep it up!
