Home for Acharya, Palemar gets Fisheries

Bangalore, Jun 8: At last Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday allotted portfolios to his 30 ministerial colleagues, besides himself.

He has retained 10 departments under his purview including Fina-nce, Intelligence, Urban Development excluding BWSSB, Forest, Kannada & Culture, Department of Personnel  & Adminis-trative Reforms.

The chief minister has allotted key portfolios to seniors: Home to Dr V S Acharya, Transport to R Ashok, Power to K S Eshwarappa and PWD to C M Udasi.

No minister for City

There is no separate minister for Bangalore City development. Barring the BWSSB, the entire urban development has come under the CM.

Given that Karnataka have 34 ministers, Yeddyurappa has three more vacancies in the Cabinet. But he is unlikely to part with Urban Development even after he expands the ministry in future.

However, Bangalore City MLA Katta Subramanya Naidu has been given IT, BT, BWSSB, besides Excise.
Naidu was offered Food and Civil Supplies. But he picked Excise, IT and BT and BWSSB.

When the notification approving the allocation was issued by Raj Bhavan, it was well past midnight on Saturday.

It is said that Eshwarappa was not happy with Power as he was keen on getting Home. However, the CM has appointed his trusted man Acharya as the home minister. Ashok has got what he wanted right from the beginning: Transport.

The final list has proved wrong the speculation that mining giants from Bellary would get Mines, Forest and Transport. The CM has kept Mines and Forest for himself, while Ashok has got Transport. First time MLA Karunakara Reddy has managed to get the plum portfolio of Revenue. His younger brother Janardhana Reddy has been made tourism & infrastructure development minister, while his associate B Sriramulu is health & family welfare minister.

Congratulations Dr.VS Acharya. You are the best choice for the Home portfolio. Although you are a seasoned and matured politician, I would like to remind you that now you are the home minister of Karnataka, not a minister for any particular party. Your portfolio is to maintain law and order in Karnataka and provide security to all sections of the society without any bias. I wish and hope that you will be able to mitigate the greatest fear in the minds of minority that whenever a BJP government is formed the entire government machinery sides with Hindu hardliners. Communal harmony should be given top priority since without peace and security there cannot be any development.Wish you all the best.
