Bangalore, Jun 9: There are possibilities of a reduction in prices of petrol and diesel in the state soon. The State Cabinet would be discussing the issue within three or four days and decide on the extent of reduction in fuel prices to the consumers in Karnataka by way of reducing various duties, said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
Talking to the media here yesterday, he said that a meeting of Chief Ministers will be held on June 16 in Delhi and the subject of reducing fuel prices is expected to figure in that meeting. The State Government would take a decision without waiting till then.
The Union Government which has abundant resources could have itself reduced the fuel prices to avoid the burden of price rise on the consumers, Yeddyurappa remarked.
The revenue accruing to the State Governments being limited, if petrol and diesel prices were reduced, it would burden the treasury of the States, Yeddyurappa observed.
The Union Government could have owned the responsibility of reducing fuel prices instead of leaving it to the State Government, he added.
