Udupi, Jun 17: Various womens' organisations in the state have taken the issue of the mysterious death Padmapriya seriously and seem determined to reach to the bottom of the case.
Udupi:Women representatives belonging to various political parties and organizations from across the district staged protest in front of the office of the deputy commissioner here today, from 10 am to 12 noon, seeking thorough investigation into the death of Padmapriya. They observed a minute's silence in memory of the departed soul. At the end of the protest, they handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner Hemalata Ponnuraj, urging the state government to initiate an in-depth probe into the incident through the Central Bureau of Invetigation.
Bangalore: Relating to the incident, members of All India Democratic Womens Forum organised a demonstration at the State Bank of Mysore Circle in Bangalore, demanding the arrest of MLA Raghupathi Bhat and asking V S Acharya to resign as home minister. They also demanded for handing over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation. The forum state general secretary Lakshmi said, the fact that the MLA did not lodge any complaint with the police even after three days since his wife went missing, and confusing statements issued by the home minister, have given rise to multifarious suspicions.
Mangalore: Meanwhile, members of Dakshina Kannada Distrit Democratic Womens Organisation held a demonstration in front of the office of the deputy commissioner, Mangalore on Monday. They demanded that the case be handed over to the Corps Of Detectives for investigation.
Congress leader and party's state womens' wing general secretary Shyamala Bhandary, at a press meet convened on Monday at the Congress Bhavan in Udupi demanded for conducting a polygraph test on Atul Rao, who is facing allegations of abetting the suicide of MLA Padmapriya.
She accused the state government of failing to protect the life of the wife of a legislator belonging to the ruling party. We are witness to the manner in which Padmapriya worked for the victory of her husband during the recent election. There is a need to find out as to what caused her to undergo a change of heart so suddenly and decide on committing suicide within a month from then. The way the case has been handled makes us to suspect the intentions of the government. Hence, a CBI inquiry should be ordered, she demanded.
