Mangalore: Padmapriya Death - No Progress in Investigation

The Hindu / DHNS

MANGALORE, Jun 22: Atul Rao, accused of abetting Padmapriya, wife of Udupi MLA K. Raghupati Bhat, to commit suicide, was on Friday discharged from a private hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Rao was admitted to A.J. Hospital and Research Centre earlier in the day after he complained of mild discomfort in the chest and was kept in the intensive care unit for observation.

The medical director of the hospital, Prashanth Marla, said he had been informed that  Rao had been admitted to the ICU after he complained of discomfort in the chest. “He was brought during the day and discharged later in the night,” Dr. Marla said.

On Thursday, Rao was brought to the office of the Inspector-General of Police (Western Range) and handed over to his family.

IGP (Western Range) Ashit Mohan Prasad said the police could not make much progress in the investigation on Friday due to Rao’s indisposition.

“The investigating officer, B.G. Achar (Police Inspector of Manipal police station) was not able to question Rao with regard to the complaint lodged by Mr. Bhat with the jurisdictional police on Thursday,” he said. “We will continue with the investigation of the case,” the IGP said.

In a related development, Additional Superintendent of Police S. N. Siddaramappa has officially asked the police officer in Delhi investigating Padmapriya Bhat’s death to provide him with a copy of the post-mortem report.

Prasad said since the Delhi police were conducting their own investigation, there could be a delay in handing over related documents. “We have officially asked for it,” he said.

Poojary demands CBI probe into Padmapriya case

Former Rajya Sabha member B Janardhana Poojary has demanded a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Padmapriya, the wife of Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said it is the responsibility of the government to clear the doubts of the general public who are in confusion that whether the incident is a suicide or murder.

Poojary alleged that Home Minister Dr V S Acharya has totally mishandled the case and indirectly taunted that he was not fit for the portfolio. “I don’t know why a doctor was made the Home Minister. He could have done something if he had been given the Medical Education portfolio,” he criticised.

Those cry for CBI investigation about Padmapriya 's death should learn a leaf from cases taken over by CBI in various places of the country.Take example of Telgi. Arasu of Delhi girl or any other matter. It is only for the rules at Delhi to have the benefits and to blackmail the opponents. Morover, what is seen here from the death of Padmapriya, Mr. Atul wanted to help out the woman in distress but he was caught in wrong footing.and became victim of situation.

Dear Readers I am very sorry to say our leaders Acharya, Poojary etc. etc. misleading the public by misusing Democracy in India. I. E. by giving statements suitable for the current moment. If a case like "Padmapriya" happened in the country like China culprits would have been caught within 24-hours of incident hanged in public. Now Acharya is Home-minister, so he protects his MLA because he got power. If Poojary was there in his possition he also done the same thing.

It is not only the demand of Mr. J.Poojary alone for a CBI inquiry. Majority of the people who have been following this case are demanding for it. All contradictory statements made by our Home Minister are raising doubts in the minds of the common people. If BJP govt is sincere then it should go for CBI inquiry.

Why are they afraid of it? I would like to ask our Home Minister about his statement - Naxalites kidnapped Padmapriya. This alone shows how irresponsible Dr. VS Acharaya is! Where are the Naxatlites now? We want an answer.

This great man Janardhan Poojary is questioning Home Minister's work and others to work..let him first look what good work he has done to society instead of always criticizing all people..I feel Mangaloreans or dakshina kannada should bother about future of the district etc and not whether few cases are suicide or accident etc leave thier family's to decide is my view -being in a democratic country I hope I have the right to express my views and will be appreciated by the educated lot

Mr. Poojary is right. Being a Home Minister, mislead entire state by giving false information on Padmapriya. Better let him take other portpolio than Home Minister, if his government last for atleast 1 year.

Yes, You are right Mr.Poojari, This case to be given to CBI then only real picture will come infront of local people of udupi, this Bhat & Acharya is trying to brain wash the local people with their agenda, this is shame for home minister to handling this case like joker he is fit for joker post in circus not in ministerial post.

If he is having that much capacity let him stand in a asembly election from Udupi, then people will decide about his future in BJP, BJP is good party but people like them are brain wash our honourable CM, he should take care or else one day then will kick him out from his seat, all is POLITICS, there is no HINDU, Muslim, or Christian, these people need money and status.

Where will be the progress?? since the investigation is done by our Karnataka police. According to me I dont have faith in Karnataka police only because the case is of a BJP MLA family that too have BJP govt and the Home Minister is also the collegue of Mr. Bhat from Udipi. so I agree with Mr. Poojary to hand over the case to CBI.

Poojary never fails to live up to expecations! Look who is talking! If we go by Mr.Poojary's logic, he should have been a law minister since he is a lawyer - instead he was a minister for Finance. May be that is the reason most, if not all national banks went to the brink of bankruptcy during Poojary's tenure in Finance ministry? Poojary single handedly lost election for Congress this time due to his statement on arrack ban - more ladies die due to alchohol induced activities. Poojary has no right to demand anyone's resignation when his ideas for women upliftment is worse (and dangerous)!
