Manipal, Jul 1: Mosquitoes are carriers of diseases and to get rid of it is a difficult task. Inge Va De Wouw of Netherlands technological institute has come to Manipal university for conducting research on the subject.

Under Netherlands ancient Delft technological university and Manipal universities Philips chair BOP project Inge has visited Manipal. Three colour bulbs manufactured in Netherlands is experimented by her in sub urban regions of Udupi and Manipal.

Inge is Industrial Design engineering student. The research by her is a part of her studies. In Manipal university's Philips chair there is an important project ‘Bottom of the piramid’. The project is sponsored by Philiphs company with the strategy to fulfill the needs of the poor at low cost. Her mosquito repellants is a part of the project.

She has brought these insect repellent lamps from Netherland to get rid of the mosquitoes. The mosquitoes are killed by the white and yellow light of the bulbs with the combined effect of chemicals. It is an effort to create a product not injurious to health at a low price. According to her the product may be manufactured in future by Philiphs company and distributed in India.

She has distributed these bulbs to 12 houses in the villages and 12 houses in semi urban region and visits there mornings and evenings to collect information. She has discussed with the experts about the effects and side effects of it. Observing the expectations and interest of the customer’s improvements will be brought in the technology.

Inge hails from an agricultural background and is a very active girl. Her father owned hundreds of cattle’s and at present is growing grasses as a fodder for the horses. He is also has the business of purchasing and selling fodder for the horses. Prior to this she has conducted many researches in Africa and Sri Lanka also. She also had worked as a temporary tutor in Delft University. She is expecting to get a job in Philiphs company in future.

    Manipal being a hilly place, I never felt mosquitoes are a problem there. Get down to Udupi/M'lore please,  You're research could yield much better results. Good Luck !

    Inge I think you should have your technology distributed around the world as mosquitoes are a menance mostly in poor and developing countries and rich companies like Philips will not sell it at cost price, they will look for huge margins.
