Mangalore, Jul 1: S N Siddaramappa, Additional Superintendent of Police, has said that a complaint of some people gaining employment through false caste certificates will be thoroughly investigated. The onus of proving the charge in such cases, however, does not lie with the complainant, he said and added that the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement Cell was competent to deal with them.
He was presiding over the monthly meeting organised by the district police with representatives of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes here on Sunday.
Mr. Siddaramappa, in response to a plea from M.A. Naik of Karnataka Marathi Federation, said he would forward a copy of the complaint lodged by the latter to the Superintendent of Police of Civil Rights Cell. Mr. Naik had complained that some people had secured jobs producing false caste certificates.
D. Dharmaiah, city sub-division deputy superintendent of police, said that the cell had sought details of the case from the complainant. Mr. Sidaramappa also advised Mr. Naik to provide whatever details he had. However, on being informed by the complainant that he to obtain them from the authorities concerned, Mr. Sidaramappa said that he would take up the matter with the cell.
The State president of B.R. Ambedkar Prathishtana, Shivappa Renkedaguttu, took objection to the absence of the Superintendent of Police of the cell as well the District Social Welfare Officer at the meeting. Stating that most of the issues raised in the meeting came under the purview of these departments, he urged the police authorities to ensure that the officials or their representatives were present in such meetings.
