Puttur, Jul 10: The people of the district used fogging, attended health camps, consumed medications from all three available systems of treatment viz., allopathic, ayurvedic and homoeopathy, to tackle chikungunya menace. Even those who were not infected with the disease popped in pills with a hope to hit back at the disease before it set in. Tens of thousands of people have suffered from this disease, pushing scores of   families to the brink of living in penury, after it infected every member from their families. Attendance in schools and offices has grown thinner. The hope that rains would drive away this disease waned. Some leaders even called upon the people to nab the mosquitoes that cause chikungunya and release them in the state assembly, to wake up the government to the serious threat it has been posing to the lives and means of the people.

On Wednesday July 9, people chose to directly approach the Lord for getting rid of this disease. Veda Samvardhana Trust in association with Art of Living Foundation, organized Dhanvantari oblation in the premises of Lord Mahalingeswara temple here. At the conclusion of the oblation, prayers were offered to the Lord to spare the people from infective diseases and epidemics like chikungunya, dengue, rat fever etc., Various vedic scholars together chanted Dhanvantari Mantra one lac times to appease Dhanvantari, believed to be in charge of mitigating diseases. Special offerings were made to the deity for the general welfare of the country.

Vedic scholar Hiranya Venkatesh Bhat deivered a special discourse on the occasion. Chayapathi Guruji representing Art of Living Foundation delivered benedictory address. President of the Yajna Samiti N K Jagannivas Rao and Veda Samvardhan Foundation president D R Bhat and others were present.
