Mangalore: D'Souza Siblings Qualify for National Chess Championship

Mangalore, Jul 13: Chess prodigy Vanessa D'Souza and her equally talented sister Andrea D'Souza have done the city proud by qualifying for the under-13 National Chess Championship. The duo qualified after a scintillating match in which the elder sister triumphed scoring five points in six rounds against Andrea.
Though Vanessa clinched the final encounter, Andrea led in the progressive score with five points in six rounds. Both sisters will now represent the state at the national level.
The young champions are the daughters of Victor D'Souza and Avith D'Souza. They are students of St Agnes English Medium School, and are trained in chess at Derik's Chess School, a premier institute for the up and coming chess masters in the city.
