Mangaluru, Feb 8: The annual day celebration of St Agnes College (Autonomous) was held on the open air grounds of St Agnes College on Wednesday, February 7.
Ivan Fernandes, chariman and managing director, Regent Technologies Ltd and chairman, Kanara Entrepreneurs Global, Dubai was the chief guest of the event. He was accompanied by his wife Renny Margaret Fernandes. Sr Dr Maria Roopa, joint secretary, St Agnes Institutions presided over the programme.
After the invocation, Sarah Crasta, PG department of Psychology, welcomed the guests. A gala cultural programme was put up by the students. Jyothi D’Souza, department of English, compered the official programme. Mrunali J P and Deepali, the student presidents of UG and PG compered the cultural programme which was a wide variety giving highest representation to students.
The chief guest in his address congratulated and appreciated the students and members of staff both for their talents and their academic output. He also motivated the students saying that life is lesson and that failure is and not an end, but only a bend and it improves one’s learning curve; moreover, success he said might introduce one to the world, but failure introduce the world to one. He also spoke about the importance of women’s education and applauded St Agnes College for rendering yeoman’s service in the field.
The highlight of the evening was the prize distribution ceremony where students were recognized and honoured, both for their academic performances and for their extra-curricular activities and talents. The principal’s roll of honour was announced for students with academic distinctions and the special prizes instituted by the college and other benefactors were distributed as scholarships. The prizes were distributed by the esteemed guests, Ivan Fernandes, Renny Margaret Fernandes, Sr Dr Maria Roopa, Sr Dr M Jeswina and Neena S, PTA vice-president.
Dr Maria G. Lobo, department of Botany rendered the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the singing of college anthem.
