Udupi, Aug 17: State energy minister K S Eshwarappa, inaugurated the Janmashtami Mahotsav at Sri Krishna Math Rajangan auditorium, here on Saturday, August 16.
After the inauguration, Eshwarappa said that Udupi has the divinity to unite people from all faiths, caste, and creeds. However, some vested interests have created a ruckus in the past about the 'Kanaka Gopura' controversy which was not sustained for long, he added.
The people involved in this have made their political exit since then. Udupi has been the abode of Lord Krishna, and this should inspire people of all religions to live harmoniously, said Eshwarappa. He conveyed his best wishes to all those preparing for the Janmastami Mahotsav.
Speaking to media persons, the minister said that thermal plants of 4,000 mega watts each will be set up at Tadady and Kodagi in Bijapur soon. Although the project faces opposition from environmentalists, efforts will be made to convince them of the benefits of energy resources. The team assigned by union government will tour these areas in September, to undertake a first hand study on the need for such projects in the region and its likely impact on the eco-environment, he informed.
