Mangalore, Aug 18: The opening session of the diocesan inquiry of cause of beatification and canonization of founder of Sisters of Little Flower of Bethany Msgr Raymond Francis Camilas Mascarenhas was held at Bendore church hall on Sunday August 17.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore inaugurated and presided over the programme It could be recalled that Bishop had earlier declared Msgr Raymond F C Mascarenhas as 'Servant of the God', which is a first step in beatification process, on June 3, 2008.

R F C Mascarenhas had founded Bethany congregation at St Sebastian Church, Bendore on July 16, 1921 with the four teachers.

In the Catholic Church tradition, it is very necessary that any person who is to be declared as Saint has some miracles performed either by him or in his name. These miracles need to substantiated with ample proof before the cause of beatification and canonization begins..

In the present case Sr Kattakayam Lilis, the postulator of the entire process, submitted some proofs related to the miracles performed in the name of Msgr RFC Mascarenhas.

The inquiry panel of Mangalore diocese will scrutinize the 100 witnesses presented by the Congregation with regard to the miracles attributed to Msgr RFC Mascarenhas.

George Nedungat, counsellor who came from Rome officiated the cause of beatification and canonization of Msgr RFC Mascarenhas.

Fr Peter Noronha, parish priest of Bendore welcomed the gathering while Sr M Jyothi, Superior General of Bethany Congregation proposed the vote of thanks.

As a Mangalorean, I feel immensely grateful to God and proud at the news that Mgr. RFC. will be raised to the honours of the altar. May the good Lord expedite the process and grant us soon to see the day of Mgr.RFC's canonization. Mgr. RFC suffered a lot in his lifeand was very much misunderstood. But, he persevered in his objectives, one of them being the founding of the Bethany congregation, which renders marvellous service all over the world, especially to the poor. PROSIT! Joemary Lobo.
