Mangalore: Various Organizations Extend Support to All-India Bundh on Aug 20

Mangalore, Aug 19: Normal life is expected to be paralyzed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Wednesday Aug 20 as a number of organizations have extended their support to All-India bundh call given by CPI against the anti-labour and anti-people policies of the UPA government.
Various labour organizations such as CITU, AITUC, Dakshina Kannada unit of State Construction Workers' Association, Motor Transport and Engineering Workers' Union, Coordinating committee of district Auto Rickshaw Drivers' Associations, Bunder Labourers' Union etc have extended their support to day-long bundh.
However Bhartiy Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has instructed its members not to take part in the bundh. BMS district president K Vishwanath Shetty has asked the members to attend their work as usual.
On the other hand DYFI district unit has decided to extend its support to the day-long bundh. The district unit has said that it will support the bundh in protest against the privatization of drinking water facility. The association has also demanded that that hike in water price must be lifted at the earliest.
In Udupi:
Insurance Workers' Union too has joined the bandwagon and given call for day-long bundh in the district on Wednesday August 19 in protest against the Union government's decision to raise foreign investment in insurance sector and privatization of pension, said president of the union U Gurudutt in a press release. The district unit of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti led by Jayan Malpe too has extended its support to the day-long bundh.
Even the ban officers and workers will extend their support to the bundh call and will participate in the strike, said district Bank Workers' Union general secretary U Shivaray. A rally will be taken out from LIC office at Ajjarkad to Corporation bank zonal office, he added.
No Bus Bundh
However, both Canara Bus Owners' Association and Udupi City Bus Owners' Associations have decided to stay away from bundh. Accordingly, buses will not go off the roads in both the districts said Rajavarmna Ballal, president of Canara Bus Owners' Association and Rajesh Shetty, president of Udupi City Bus Owners' Association and Karavali Bus Workers' Union president Vijaykumar.
Even the State government workers union has decided not to extend its support to bundh call given by CPI. Life Insurance Corporation workers' Association general secretary Manohar Veigas has said that their association will not support the bundh call given by CPI.
